Separation and divorce affect a significant number of students in any school community and must be handled with respect and discretion. This session will examine various types of family law issues that schools may be required to deal with, including:

  • Issues and risks arising from informal/undocumented arrangements between parents
  • Understanding parenting plans and court orders
  • The practicalities of managing parental orders and their impact on educator responsibilities
  • Implementing relevant policies and procedures to manage family law issues related to students and parents
  • Ensuring the effective management of separated or divorced families in the school environment
  • Reporting obligations where allegations of domestic violence are made by a student or a parent/care giver of a student
  • Engaging with independent children’s lawyers with respect to determining a child’s best interests in the school context

Eustacia is a Managing Lawyer at Australia’s first not-for-profit law firm, New Way Lawyers. She practices exclusively in family law and has a broad range of experience in parenting and property matters, as well as domestic and family violence matters. Eustacia is also student of theology at Trinity Theological College in Brisbane, working towards a MThStudies. She is a long-term member of Ashgrove Baptist Church and is regularly asked to preach and speak at church events and denominational conferences.
