About the Webinar

Expert witnesses play a vital role in many family law proceedings, and the use single experts is often preferred to the use of adversarial experts in both parenting and property matters. While the purpose of the appointment of the single expert is to provide the court with independent assistance in its decision making, that independence may be compromised if parties do not deal with the single expert in the appropriate fashion. This session will look at the ins and outs of working with single experts, including:

  • The role of the single expert in parenting and property matters.
  • The benefits of appointing a single expert in family law proceedings.
  • How to instruct a single expert.
  • Reviewing and commenting on draft single expert reports.
  • Responding to questions from a single expert.
  • Unilateral communications with single experts.
  • How to deal with objections to communications with a single expert
