Unless exempt, lawyers must complete at least 10 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units each CPD year (1 April – 31 March). Requirements for CPD must be met in order to maintain a practicing certificate. Whilst there are some slight variations between states, most lawyers must complete at least 1 CPD unit in the following four areas:
- Ethics and Professional Responsibility
- Professional Skills
- Substantive Law
- Practice Management and Business Skills
